The very first thing I’m going to talk about is my hair. Why you ask? Well, I have to start somewhere, and it’s somehow my most known feature. When someone tries to describe me to others the first thing they say is: ‘The girl with the long blonde curly hair and fringe’. Funny but true! Because girls often ask me how I grew my hair so long I thought I would write a blogpost on it. Hope you like it!

The #1 thing I do to keep my hair healthy is so incredibly important. You’ll probably have heard it a lot already, but I’m going to say it anyways. DRINK ENOUGH WATER!! Even I sometimes struggle with this, but it is oh so important! I can’t stress it enough! It doesn’t matter how much time, money and effort you put into your hair, the healthiness starts from within. When you are dehydrated your hair can look dry, frizzy, damaged and dull. We don’t want that, do we? So, start from the beginning and drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. It helps when you always carry a water bottle with you. That’s what I do too. Just occasionally sip from it and it will be empty before you’ll even know it!

The second thing I do can be a little tricky at the beginning. Please, PLEASE love your hair and don’t wash it every day! This applies especially on curly hair. Dry shampoo is your best friend with this one! When you wash your hair you’re stripping of all the natural oils your scalp produces. And believe it or not, these are the good oils! I’m not saying you shouldn’t wash it at all, just not that often. You can actually ‘train’ your hair to not become oily so fast. That’s what I did. Just stop washing it for about a week. Gross, I know, but do this while you’re in finals or something. Believe me, it works! Now I only try to wash mine once or twice a week. Also, for my curly haired friends, ALWAYS use a conditioner when you wash your hair. Curly hair needs that moisture! Between these washes I’ll do different hairstyles so I can still look put together. Think of braids, buns, ponytails,… you name it! If you’re a girl (or boy) that has to wash her (his) hair every day because it get greasy very easily, stop doing that. Washing your manes every day is probably the reason why it gets greasy so fast because your stripping of the natural oils every day, so your scalp thinks it has to produce more and more. It’s like a viscous cycle. Just try to ‘train’ your hair like I said earlier!

Next, I’m always very careful when I brush my hair. My biggest tip is to start from the bottom and work your way up. That way it will be so much easier than when you would start from the middle or your scalp. Once you can’t feel any knots left in the section that you’re brushing, go up little by little. Just keep doing that and you will have much less breakage. My favorite brush to use is a Tangle Teezer. I fell in love with it the minute I started using it, now I can’t live without one! It makes brushing curly hair so much easier, but also works perfectly for wavy or straight hair. I would recommend it to everyone!

Something I also do is drying my hair with a cotton t-shirt. That might sound weird, but it’s so much better than a regular towel. It makes my hair less frizzy and dry. Just take an old t-shirt (cotton!) and try it, I assure you you’ll love it! Also, don’t rub you hair while drying, but SQUEEZE it! Rubbing can cause split ends!

Last but definitely not least, do not use heat on your hair! It will slow down the growing process and will cause a lot of damage. Try to find ways to use as less heat as possible. things like heatless curls, heatless hairstyles,… work perfect for this! You’ll thank me later!
